I have been reading Tsh Oxenreider's book Organized Simplicity. Tsh is over at Simple Mom, you should check out her blog, it is great!
Now that all four children are married and moved on, my husband and I have toyed with the idea of downsizing. We have a four bedroom house, mostly filled with our stuff, and some of our kids stuff... I have been challenged to get to work on organizing and getting rid of the excess. There are so many things that we have accumulated in the last 20 years, some, I have no clue where they came from, and some, I wonder what possessed me to keep.
Yesterday I cleaned out the coffee mug cupboard, I got rid of many mugs. My husband was looking for a mug for some hot water. This conversation ensued...
Husband, "Where are the blue chicken mugs?"
Me, "I am getting rid of them."
Husband, "They were my hot water mugs."
Me, "Can't you use your "Dartmouth" mug?"
Husband, "But that is my coffee mug."
Me, later after a chuckle in the other room... "We will never be able to live in a smaller space."
Husband, "Oh yes we will..." (not very believable)
You see, this is not the only time he has said, why are we getting rid of such and such.... he likes to save things. Maybe I will make that Goodwill trip before he comes home from work!!!!
Today was "Purge the Plastic" day!!
The "plastic storage" (Tupperware) cupboard, is not a favorite for my husband. He complains he can never find a lid that fits the container. I was amazed at how many lids I had that there were no containers for??? Where did they go????
This is all the plastic I am taking to Goodwill, minus what is in the red bowl, those are the "extra" lids. |
I had company today, little Cora watched and played...she is so cute!!
Grandma are you sure you should get rid of that.... Have a super day!! Cindy |
It is a great book, my sister has just got me into her blog and lent me the book, I like it so much have to get my own copy! I love anything to do with simple living and housekeeping ideas. Its certainly better to throw out the excess and actually be able to find what you are looking for.
ReplyDeleteIsn't purging the best feeling? I love how you are keeping the lids with the containers. I can never seem to do that and always end up with containers and lids that don't match. I am a new follower. I found you via the Passionately Artistic link party.
ReplyDeleteI do love purging!! Still trying to bring my husband along... I am a new follower of your blog, one comment, link your email to your name that way I can email you directly in a reply!!
DeletePS, I homeschooled my 4 kids too!!
Haha! My husband is exactly the same!!! And he blames me for all the "stuff" around here. And where do all those single lids come from???
ReplyDeleteLove it!
I love Organized Simplicity, such a great book! But, not as much as that new Poppy Tunic in your shop!!!!
ReplyDeleteWe've all been fighting colds here....no fun but we will catch up soon I hope!
Oh my goshhhhh how cute is your little Cora! Lucky Grandma having her around while you clean out your cabinets. It's hard to get rid of stuff that's in perfectly good shape. I've been bringing things to my local Salvation Army because stuff that is just taking up space in my house could actually be useful to someone else, right? It's so freeing to live with less.
ReplyDeleteYou're inspiring me to tackle my plastic containers today!
Found you from Jule's WMP and I am glad that I did. Thank you for the introduction to the SimpleMom blog. I also homeschool our 4 children so I need all the organization I can get :) Your grandbaby is too sweet! Great job on organizing the plasticware, it's nice to be able to find everything and your cabinet is so organized. Great idea to put lids under the container, why haven't I thought of that?! Can't wait to see what you accomplish as you simplify, thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you're getting very organized! Cora is a cutie!
ReplyDeleteSnowy and rainy days do seem great for cleaning and organizing -- or sleeping! We, too, are now empty nesters and attempting to purge and organize. You are doing a great job, and have such a sweet little helper!
ReplyDeleteOH, my gosh! If I had little Cora with me I would not get a single thing done except looking into those gorgeous eyes and trying to make her laugh! What a sweetheart!
ReplyDeleteYou had me at the word organized! I love organizing, and can't stand clutter. My mother keeps telling me that pretty soon I will be getting rid of our kitchen table! And, I told her that that's ok, in some countries they don't use a kitchen table, lol!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I just became your newest follower on Google Connect, and Linky Followers, yay! Would so appreciate a follow back! Thanks so much and have a great dey!
